Bar Association of San Francisco MCLE
Seeking a Solution to Stress?

Stress is not the easiest topic for people to address. Earlier this year (2002)
I presented the seminar, "Reducing Stress in Deadline Driven Environments"
(for The Bar Association of San Francisco for MCLE credit).
I wanted to provide some clearly defined, simple ways to deal with
stress for those participating. Here are some tips I passed along.
Objectives
Avoiding costly mistakes, unnecessary frustration and burn-out
Managing time when schedules seem out of control
Reviewing/planning that encourages feelings of accomplishment and peace of mind
To address the stress concurrent with deadline driven or time-pressured environments,
presentation applied "Essential Actions 6,8,9" from my work the
Organic Organizing Matrix
which is based on 1000's of hours of coaching and organizing high achievers
such as those commonly found in the law profession. I also provided recommended to-dos
for applying each action. The goal at the end of our hour together was for
each participant to commit to practicing one Essential Action (6, 8, or 9) for reducing
stress with more ease.

(continued)
Purposely simple, Essential Actions 6,8,9 can be applied immediately and
superficially to reduce stress because they are under one's control regardless of the given environment:
EA 6:
Pick up your desk/work/play area in between activities/projects
EA 8:
Over-estimate the time you think things will take you-- know your "fudge factor"
EA 9:
Complete the day
Do just one of these things each day and you may see more peace of mind and reduced stress.
